How to Get the Green Tick (Verified Badge) on WhatsApp Business

24 August 2026

The green tick next to a business name on WhatsApp — officially the Official Business Account (OBA) badge — is the single most requested item from businesses moving to the WhatsApp Business API. This guide explains what it actually is, what Meta looks at, how to apply, and how to improve your chances. It also explains, honestly, why nobody can guarantee it.

What the green tick is (and is not)

The green tick marks a business as an Official Business Account: Meta has determined that the account belongs to a notable, authentic brand. When you have it, your business name is displayed in the chat header and in the contact list even if the customer has not saved your number.

What it is not:

  • It is not a requirement to use the WhatsApp Business API. You can send templates, broadcasts and run a full support desk without it.
  • It is not the same as business verification. Business verification is a document check on your company in Meta Business Settings, and it is required. The green tick is a separate, discretionary brand decision.
  • It is not the paid Meta Verified subscription that exists for Facebook and Instagram profiles.
  • It cannot be bought, and it cannot be obtained through a "connection" at Meta. Any vendor promising guaranteed approval for a fee is selling something they do not control.

Prerequisites before you can even apply

  1. A WhatsApp Business Account on the API with a registered phone number.
  2. Business verification completed in Meta Business Settings (Security Centre).
  3. A display name that complies with WhatsApp's display name guidelines and matches how the public knows your brand.
  4. A messaging history in reasonable standing: a healthy quality rating and no recent policy violations.
  5. Two-factor authentication enabled on the WhatsApp Business Account.

What Meta actually evaluates: notability

The core criterion is notability — evidence that your brand is well known and widely covered by sources you do not control. In practice Meta looks for the brand being mentioned in credible third-party media. Paid press releases, sponsored articles, your own blog, your own social pages and directory listings do not count.

Strong signals include:

  • News coverage in recognised publications (national or reputable regional outlets, trade press).
  • A Wikipedia article about the company, where genuinely warranted.
  • Consistent brand presence: the same name across your website, Facebook Page, Instagram, LinkedIn and Google Business Profile.
  • Scale indicators the public can see — number of outlets, app installs, funding announcements, awards from independent bodies.

How to apply, step by step

1. Get business verification done first

Applications from unverified businesses are dismissed quickly. Upload documents where the legal name and address exactly match your Meta Business account details.

2. Fix your display name

Use the brand name people search for, with no promotional words, no city suffixes added for keyword value and no generic descriptions. If your display name has been changed recently, wait until it is stable before applying.

3. Build the evidence file

Collect three to five links to independent coverage published in the last one to two years, and keep them ready. Where coverage is thin, that is the real work item — not the application form.

4. Submit the request

In WhatsApp Manager, open the phone number's settings and choose the option to request the Official Business Account badge (labels change over time; your provider can point to the current location). Submit the supporting links where the form allows it. Your panel provider or Tech Provider can raise the request on your behalf, but the decision remains Meta's.

5. Wait, then re-apply thoughtfully

Decisions typically arrive within a few weeks. If declined, the account normally becomes eligible to apply again after a cooling-off period of about 30 days. Re-applying with the same evidence rarely changes the outcome; re-apply once you have genuinely new coverage.

Practical ways to build notability in six months

This is the part most businesses skip, and it is the only part that materially changes the answer.

  • Earn real coverage. Offer journalists something newsworthy: proprietary data from your industry, a funding or expansion milestone, a genuinely novel product, or expert commentary on a current story.
  • Publish original research. A small annual survey of your customers or market, released with clear numbers, is the most reliable way for a mid-sized company to get quoted.
  • Enter independent awards and industry lists. Recognition from bodies unrelated to you is exactly the kind of third-party signal Meta values.
  • Standardise your brand identity everywhere. One spelling, one logo, one legal name across website, GST records, social profiles and app stores.
  • Grow visible customer scale. Reviews, app installs and store presence build the general public footprint reviewers see when they search your name.

Do you actually need it?

Be pragmatic. The badge helps trust and open rates, but it is not the gate to results. Businesses without a green tick run high-performing WhatsApp operations by doing three things well: getting real opt-ins, replying fast inside the 24-hour service window, and keeping message content specific and useful. Meanwhile, the following are available to every verified business regardless of badge status: your business name and logo in the profile, a website link, catalogue, click-to-WhatsApp ads, template broadcasts and automation.

How WabaPanel helps

WabaPanel is built by KKHS Media Private Limited — a Meta Business Partner, business verified on Meta and verified as a Tech Provider in Meta's access verification review. Practically, that means we can onboard your WhatsApp Business Account correctly inside your own Meta Business account, complete business verification with you, keep your display name and templates compliant, monitor your quality rating, and submit the OBA request when your notability evidence is genuinely ready. What we will not do is promise an approval that only Meta can grant.

FAQ

How long does green tick approval take?

Usually a few weeks after submission, though it varies. Business verification, which must come first, commonly takes two to five working days when documents are clean.

Can I get the green tick without press coverage?

It is unlikely. Notability is assessed largely through independent coverage. Large public footprint in other forms can help, but third-party media is the dominant signal.

Is the green tick paid?

No. Meta does not sell the Official Business Account badge, and any vendor charging for guaranteed approval cannot deliver that guarantee.

My application was rejected. What now?

Wait out the cooling-off period, spend it building real coverage and tightening brand consistency, then re-apply. Repeated identical applications do not improve odds.

Does the green tick increase my messaging limit?

No. Messaging limits are driven by your quality rating and sending history, not by the badge.
